Buy a new CF card and try that. 32MB isn't much space anyway. You'd be better off getting a new 2GB SanDisk Ultra II or faster.

Probably the card but I can't really comprehend what your original post said you tried doing.

Have you tried formatting the card in-camera? Is the "duplicate card" also a 32MB? If so, chances are they're both old (and faulty) cards...that's a TINY card by today's standards. I don't think they're made that small anymore.

First off, punctuation is your friend! :)

Sorry if I missed it in your original post but are you trying this all with same card or have you tested multiple cards?

So, you've swapped cards, reformatted the card in both the camera and the PC, removed the battery, and still have the ERR 99 issue. Have you tried the folllowing:

1. Removing all the batteries (including the date time battery- the small button cell)
2. Removing and re-seating the lens.
3. Cleaning the contacts in the camera and on the lens

Here's an article that might assist you.

I would do as mark suggested and if that doesn't work, sit tight until the new card shows up then go from there.

When you originally replaced the card, you didn't accidentally bend a pin in the camera, did you?

then the card was full so took it out to exhange it with another duplicate card and it came up error

Seems to me that your problems started when you swapped another card in.

So, going back to my original question but with a bit more explanation...

Inside your camera there are a heap of pins (2 rows of them) that connect to the holes in the end of the card you are slotting into the camera.

Open up the card slot - grab a torch or other bright light.

Look into that slot at the pins.

You didn't accidentally bend a pin in the camera, did you?

I don't know about the 350D, but if I am not mistaken, the XTi/400D requires a minimum of 2GB (don't believe me because I might be all wrong -- check your owners manual). At any rate, a 32 MB card just plain isn't good enough unless you are going to be satisfied with about six pictures before it is full. Next, you should ERASE and then FORMAT the new card before trying to take pictures with it installed.

A 256mb card that came with my old Canon S50 DID in fact work in my XTi.

There is no minimum size requirement as long as there is sufficient space to contain at least one image in the resolution your camera is set for.
