sick feeling I am about to start a new habit

I quit smoking a year ago..... I have this sick feeling I am about to start a new habit!!!! (I posted this in lens forum also, hope that's ok) So I have been on this forum for 3 days straight. I am a very jealous girl! Went to bed at 4am this morning! I do not have a lot of experience, have a point and shoot g3 at the moment haha! But I looove taking pictures and I am taking the plunge.

Just looking for suggestions to research

I don't expect to be able to be able to do what I have seen in this forum (you people are amazing) , just want to make something that makes me happy. So I have decided that tomorrow I am purchasing the body of a 30D. 800 Yikes!! But I think that seems to be a good price.

I am looking for suggestions from you: What would YOU suggest for 1st 2 frames that would be great to start with, I am not looking to spend thousands (to start)! But a few things I tend to love to take pics of, micro's of flowers and bugs, pics of my dog and pics of the places I go on vacation, sunsets, buildings, etc. (Next vacation hopefully Italy if I can gather some cash)

I don't have this one (yet) but relatively cheap and good would be a trusty 'ol 50mm (f/1.4)... or just get the <$100 f/1.8 so you can shoot day-one!

Im sure all the money you are saving by not buying cigarettes will get you some pretty nice gear.

welcome to the forum. I love digital photography and have only gotten serious about it 3 months ago. I had a Nikon PS camera since 2003 but my 30D is my first venture into DSLR. I like to go out every weekend and take pics. I am even starting to post process my pictures and they turn out even better. My next venture will be purchasing a good printer. I am even thinking of a 5D in the near future. I dont even do this for money its that much fun.I predict I will spend another $4,000 within the next 3 years on photography equipment.

I recommend getting the 28-105 for a starting walk around lens. Great lens for the price. Welcome to the world of DSLRs... and if you want to save money I recommend staying far away from these forums:p.

60mm macro is an affordable lens and good for portraits/flowers/inse​cts; very sharp:

yup I'd go for the 50f1.4 as a starting point, cheap and excellent IQ, then you'll soon know whether you want to stick with primes or go zooms, but at least you'll have one fast prime in your kit

Macro lens and something for landscape that's a good walk around either Tamron 17-50 or 28-75 either lens is good and wont break the back.

Agree with the 60mm EFS, it will give you the best of both worlds at first and then I would get a UWA

Welcome to the forum. I owned a 28-105 for years and was very pleased with the pics.
BTW, I quit smoking and drinking, put the money aside and bought a 300 2.8L IS ($4k)

You know this hobby could kill you, like if you don't have the right lens, and take a few steps back and you step into traffic or off a cliff.
