i've just got into dslr's well any slr for that matter and got a used 300d. im getting to the point that i feel like the body is holding me back. takes forever to turn on or wake up, not enought fps and the buffer seems super slow. i know you guys usually always say go for glass but i still have that voice in my head chanting 40d. this brings me to the problem what do i do?

1 upgrade to either 400d($600) or 40d($1100) depending on cash

2 get multiple low priced lens (i cant see paying the price of the 40d for one single lens)

Nothing to see here....

If you feel that the body is limiting you by all means go for the 400D or 40D. I was in the exact same position as you a few weeks back and I'm very happy with upgrading to the 40D from my 350D.

Multiple low priced lenses is not the way to go... If you want glass make it good glass, even if it's only one instead of two... Bodies are changing every 6 months or so getting better each time... Good glass does not change very often, and when it's good it's good, always...

If you want a new body because you are not happy with the current one, then grab one, lifes too short, above all else you have to enjoy your photography

I have to agree with what's already been said. If the camera body is limiting your art - replace it. If you buy poor quality lenses, you set yourself up for disappointment, and ultimately will have to replace them.

Oh - P.S. - 40D or run-out or used 30D might be better in your case than 400D, I think.

Outlaw,

Have you considered a refurbished or used 20D? It has 5FPS, an almost instant startup time and excellent buffer (if you are shooting JPEG). You can find these on eBay or even craigslist for around $500.
And Kenny is right on the money about the lenses. Get one good one rather than two okay ones.

get good glass like the others said, but consider the 30D , it's cheaper and the problems have been ironed out, and you'll love it;)

ok body will be upgraded first. my main concern is it will keep me happy allot longer than my used 300d. i plan to upgrade to one of the xxd series but funds will make the final decision on which of the xxd series i get.
