Hi,
I have had the 40D from the first week of release, but dont get much time to use it, but when I have I have been unhappy with most of the results.
( I have posted a few messages in other threads about my issues ).

With my trusty D60, I had the focus and exposure just set by the * button, and mostly never had any issues with focus etc. I wanted to set my 40D exactly the same way, as this is what I was used to and it suites me.

I went out yesterday, and took alot of photos, but I am again not happy with what the results were like. Some good alot are not good. :( I used my 70-200mmF4 L IS and 100mm f2.8 Macro, so both good lenses.

What I have just reaslised is that even though I have the focus lock set on the * button as per my D60, the shutter button also does something whilst half pressed. So is one overriding the other? What I would like to do is have the foucs on the * button and the shutter to just take the photo as my D60 was set up.
Can someone please advise me as to what custom function I can set the 40D to so that the shutter does nothing apart from take the photo?
I do hope that that this helps me with my dissappointment with the 40D so far, which I know is certainly user error.
Ben

You need the shutter button to lock exposure and then take the picture, some people forget to change it from also AF'ing
if you are using an IS lens that should also be triggered with the shutter button half pressed
C.Fn IV/1 is set to 3,
C.Fn IV/2 is set to 1,

C.Fn III/3 is set to 1, to use the multi wheel to select an AF point quick

try that

Thanks MaDProFF I will give it a try.

I hope it helps as it is getting me down that I spent all this money, and i get better results from the old D60!

Is there a C.Fn setting in which the shutter just takes the photo, and not do exposure/foucus lock? I would just like the * button to do it all.
tnx - just off to a family afternoon out ,so I wont see anything for a few hours. so I will have some nice out of focus shots to view this evening!
