Thanks for all the comments, I went to the photo store were my sister works, and was told the 10-22 was 880 cost for them, and B&H sells it for 749 I think. How can cost be 130 bucks more than B&H sells it for. Something isn't right there. He also told me that canon is dropping prices for Canadian stores to help keep buisness up here, but I don't think that they will come close to matching.
Thanks again for the responses.
Dave

Margins, duties, taxes, shipping. It's ridiculous, but it's the case. $3899 for a 300 2.8 at BH, and $4799 here ON SALE. It is ridiculous. On top of that it is special order at most shops from canon canada, so it isn't like most shops have it in stock and paid $$$ for it when the dollar was lower.

Canon IS dropping prices here from what i understand (they already dropped CPS pricing lower) but who knows if it will fall even remotely close to being worthwhile.

correction the lens is 639 after instant rebate at B&H, don't see myself buying it here, even at staff pricing

Just bought my 85 1.8 from b&h paid 30% less got the rebate and the service was impeccable. I live in Quebec!

How many $$$ did you have to pay at the door? When companies ship UPS like BH do, I always get reamed at the door with duties and other fees.

I would still buy locally. Lens defective, one 20 minute trip and I have a new one. Not two weeks later. Just this is worth the cash saved from buying US product.

As long as you're not in a hurry, then just have it mailed up. I've had better luck getting things through the mail in one piece than UPS, and Canada Post only charges you $5 on top of the taxes for the privilege of bringing your package in.

The last time i did the express mail thing, but it's not worth it. It didn't get here any faster than regular parcel post would.

I had my 85/1.8 shipped via USPS/Canada Post. Paid $47 at time of pick-up - $42 for HST (14% on $300, which was the purchase price converted to Canadian funds) plus a $5 "handling" fee (which is, I believe, the customs brokerage fee). There is no duty on lenses.

I ordered from B&H at 3pm Thursday and got it by 1pm the next day by UPS.
Less then 24 hours and the shipping was $40. I think that is pretty good.
