The ef-s 17-85mm within days of buying it used because it was so absurdly soft at the edges and general build quality was low.

Yeah, the 85mm, it's a good lens but I ended up getting 70-200 2.8 for indoor sports and the extra speed at D1 levels of the 1.8 was not at all worth loss of flexibility and it was a bit long on the APS-C I had then. It's harder to handhold in dark lighting than the 50 1.4 and doesn't quite have the magic of the 135L on FF. So that is why it went after just a few months in my case.
