Here are a couple pics of a red tailed hawk that was feasting on a squirrel (or pigeon?) in Boston Commons.

This was my first walk around with my first dslr. I forgot to put the camera in RAW so these are just cropped jpeg's.

i thought it was interesting enough to share

Real nice shots, and it's great to see one of these birds adapting to the city.

This is definately a Red Tailed Hawk. The line of spots across the belly is the clincher.

I wonder if they moved into town on their own, or if they were introduced? We have Peregrines here in our town, 3 pairs I think, but they were introduced. Red Tails can be pretty laid back though, especially if they were raised the first year by humans, and released. :)

Nice captures, here is a link I might have gotten on this forum about red-tails in Central park NY. Some really good info there on there hunting methods for pidgeons.

They've had several hours of programs on PBS about Pale Male and several years of nesting seasons. It's quite a show. :)
