I am considering a 40 D and noticed a poll regarding the back focus issue; what happened to this poll and did the issue turn out to be just a rumor. Also can someone explain the issue of back focus to me?
Thanks

Any back focus problems are usually an error in the lens, not the body.

Both back- and front- focus issue is the error left behind by the manufacturer after aligning the AF sensor plane to match the exact same distance as the sensor plane from the lens. Although this adjustment wouldn't be hard to be properly made either by software or mechanically, it requires some extra time and several exposure checking. And we know that time = money.
There isn't a preponderance of backfocusing units, nor frontfocusing ones.

So it sounds like it could be an issues with any camera/lenses; could anyone outline a series of steps to take to test your camera for its focusing accuracy. Also I have read about lenses being uncalibrated; I would like to check all my cameras/lenses, i have always had issues with clear focus.
Thanks

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

It’s the other way around. Front/back focus issues are due to body, not lens. A lens can be soft, but it will always be soft.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.
