Great shots! I think I actually might have seen you. Kinda nice to have an NHL team back in Chicago, isn't it.;) Surprised you did not get any good ones of the Children. Can't remember when the Hawks had two young players like 88 & 19.

Mills - Yep, I got quite a few shots of Kane and Toews. In fact, I just wrote an article for the paper I was shooting for that describes the impact these two have made on the team.

I just hit the limit on the number of images I could upload in the first post.

Here are a few of Kane

Speaking of Toews, in case you haven't seen it, check out this goal he scored a week or two ago:

That was an amazing goal. I think it was on TSN's top plays for that week.

That goal was sick!

I feel, however, that there's no way Chicago will be claiming a top seed in the West, not with Detroit playing the way they are right now.

This is pretty unlikely, but is there a chance that you shot anything through the glass so we could compare that to a shot taken through a hole?

folville,

The only thing I shot "through the glass" was the shot of the photo hole, where you can see the marks from sticks and helmets and gloves (oh my!).

Shooting straight on at 90 degrees or so, with a large aperture, you'll most likely experience some distortion (the more you wander from a 90 degree angle relative to the glass with your shot, the more distortion you'll see) from the glass, and maybe a little interference from the glass not being spotless. However, shoot a long enough lens and a large enough aperture and this will be minimized, sorta like shooting through a backstop or net at a baseball game. You might also see some decrease in contrast.

One thing I definitely suggest if you know you're gonna shoot through glass is to wear a dark or black shirt or jacket. Any light colored tops will reflect light off the ice and cause noticeable reflections on your side of the glass - not good.

DMWIERZ, that for all the info and great pictures. I have only one question. I had tickets to my local NHL game (Tampa Bay Lightning) and they almost flipped when I tried to bring in my rebel XTI and 70-200L f/2.8. When I reached inside the forum(withought my equipment) I saw several others (non pro) with camera equipment and they were using the holes in the glass during the game (in the non premium spots). How on earth are some people getting in and others are not. I called the forum and spoke to the manager and he said tha the policy is no professional cameras are allowed inside.

Any help would be great. Thanks

rockford,

Well, the first thing I'm gonna tell you is it literally makes no difference what I tell you - the security folks at the rink are the ones who make the call.

The St. Pete Times Forum web site says:

Q: Can I bring video or still cameras into the forum?
A: For most events, at the request of the artists and/or leagues, video cameras and flash photography are not permitted.

How would you know the folks using the photo holes are "non-pros"? I mean, they possibly could only have a 70-200 lens with them, and it's not like an NFL game where they make photog's wear funky vests. In my experience, the arena security crew is usually OVER-conservative when policing the photo holes.

Shots look great Dennis. I'm glad to see they are going to start airing home games again.

I almost shot the NN @ LWE game this Friday, but my plans changed and I'm now shooting the Brother Rice @ HF game. Both should be fantastic football games, and good luck to your Huskies.

Chris,

Thanks. It would seem the younger Wirtz is gonna make the NHL interesting in Chicago once more.

I'll be in Frankfort Friday night and at JCA Saturday night. Naperville manhandled Bolingbrook last week, as Kevin probably told you.

I was going to shoot Normal at Providence and Crystal Lake at Lemont on Saturday but Kevin asked if we could switch games, so I'm now shooting Metorma at Pontiac and the Rock Island at JCA game too. See you then.

this might be a stupid question, but how do you get credentials to get in there with a camera and some lenses?

also, that looks like section 109-110. my neighbor used to have season tickets directly to your left row 2 seats 3 and 4. i cant tell you the amount of times i have been there and photographers just sit there for 8-9 minutes and snap pictures. when i first started going there, they didn't have a cutout there. then they added the cutout, but the little piece to cover the hole was never there, i used to see kids stand there and the players would hand them pucks during warm ups through there. then, in the last few years, i have seen that little piece covering the hole when a photographer isn't there.

Wow ! and Wow again !. He's 19 yrs old and he left the Colorado defender looking for his jockstrap!

I think that is the Colorado feed and those announcers are just as excited as if one of their own guys scored.
