Thanks btw - I already bought the 30D but I can refund it (it's not here yet and I won't open it) If I already had a 30D I don't think I would upgrade to the 40D. I had a 400D (XTi) and didn't hesitate. From all I read the 30D is a fine camera. The 40D is reported to have some improvement in the area of focus and has a faster frame/per/second rate. Only you can decide if the dollar difference is important enough to you to go with the 30D or if you will spend your time wishing you had gotten the 40D instead of enjoying the camera you bought. There are some things about the 40D that really appeal, notable the cross-type AF sensors, live-view, and the interchangeable focusing screens, but even if I could afford to, which I cannot, I would not change. I'm biding my time for a full frame camera that does what I want at a price I can afford. I'm not sure if that helps, or even addresses your question, but WTH - I though I'd say something.
