Hi guys, I'm a graphic designer by trade and want to photograph some of my previous work (ie. brochures, letterheads, magazine layouts, packaging, etc.) to update my design portfolio. Do you have any advice I could use to get the light down?

I am thinking about getting a light dome, but having never used one - don't know if I'd be fishing with a torpedo:)
this is the dome/tent I was thinking about going with:

any help and advice is appreciated:)
Thanks,
Justin

I used to copy alot of tearsheets and printing samples for designers. I would mount the sample on mount board and cut it flush, then put the item on a piece of 1" thick lumber and lay it on a white background. I would use a 2x3 ft soft box to light it from the upper left corner, which would give me a drop shadow below and to the right of the tearsheet. Changing the angle of the light would control the direction and size of the shadow. A bouncecard of white or silver fomecore on the right would control the contrast of the shadow.

If you want a simple copy, scan it or photograph it on a copy stand.
