Finding alot of canon wireless remotes out there and not one of them is described as working with the 400D.

Has anyone had the RC1 work with 400D? I'm thinking not...

The Canon RC-1 remote control makes taking group photos easy by allowing you to take pictures away from the camera. The RC-1 allows the selection of either a 2-second shutter delay or instant shutter release. Compatible with the Canon EOS Elan II/Elan IIe, EOS Elan, EOS 10S, and EOS IX.

I use the RC-1 on my 400D.

EDIT - Note that that RC-1 is infra-red - not radio.

According to Canon's website the RC-1 is compatible.

And why do you say you're thinking not?

I use the RC1 all the time on my XTi, mostly for triggering time lapse stuff.

I'm not too impressed with the range of it, though. It's not so great for doing group photos from any sort of distance.

ah ok good to know - amazon's description of it didn't list it as compatible.

If its not great on distance, is there one that is?

It has horrible range, and only triggers when you trigger it in front of the camera. The effective range is only about 5-6 feet for me, if at all.

I've triggered my XTI with the RC1 from at least 20 feet. Outside no less.

If you must know...

I haven't used it a lot from out front - trying to get into the picture. But I have used it lots on tripod shots in low light from behind the camera when I didn't want to manually press the shutter button.
