Hey everyone! I've been fooling around with a new CPL filter lately... please let me know what you think of this attempt! Yes, I know it's a bit oversaturated, and has too much contrast, but that was sort of what I was going for, and I think it complements the patterns in the sky quite nicely.

For those who are interested, this has been taken at Petroglyphs Provincial Park near Peterborough, ON.

Kit lens @ 18mm, Hoya Pro1D Polarizer.

Personally I like it... the colours work for me. I know you were focusing on the sky, but I might actually crop the pic so that there is not very much sky and bring attention to the woods and rocks on the shore...

Thanks for the comments Michael! I actually tried the crop you suggested when I was editing it, but found that once I cut off a bit of the sky I lost a lot of the mood of the shot, so I decided to keep it.

Besides, I was playing with my new toy (the CPL) so lots of sky was a must!

Great placement of the colored tree in the frame, but to much sky.

Thanks Frank!

Ok, I tried to crop out the sky like you and Michael suggest. Tell me what you think. I tried to crop it so that I don't entirely leave out that great cloud pattern that was meant to lead you into the shot. Were you thinking an even tighter crop perhaps?

Oh and feel free to play around with it if you like! I'd love to see how you guys see this shot! ;)

Superb, Alex
Now you have a better balanced image that's well framed with a focal point which is the tree and shoreline, and still have a great sky.

Your second crop is great and I do not think there is too much contrast in the image. I love contrasty and saturated photos!

No I didn't submit my avatar photo to the LCBO contest... but as I discovered after I took it, it's a pretty popular shot, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone submitted one just like it.
