Hi Everyone, this my first post in this section of our wonderful forum. Fairly new to people shots, have done much motorsport and landscape in the past.

I like the shot below, but would like some advice on how it can be improved. I was looking for a dark shot, and one that appeared a little 'rough' or grainy, so bear that in mind when suggesting improvements.

Single light source (small hallogen light - not a photography light at all, just a small bed-side light).

I am unsure of the woman's eyes, I don't so much dislike the dark eye as I was looking for dramatic shadows, but I am not sure about not being able to see the pupil or iris in her eye that is in the light. And - is the pose boring to you? I know it's a pose that's been done before.

Fire away - and thanks in advance.

Cliff

i'm generally not a fan of the dark images like this, but this is very interesting to me.

Although the effect is nice.. I don't find the pose to be pleasing of the woman.. with so much of her neck showing it makes her look heavy.. plus the empty eye is rather odd.

But I kind of like the effect on the man.. so maybe with a different pose it would work better?

I also find the woman's pose a little distracting, but I like the treatment of shadows alot.

Not a fan. Looks like the woman is possessed, you can't see any pupil. Only see the whites of the eye.

If it were just the man in this image I think it might work. I like the subtle graininess of the picture.

Thanks very much for the comments everyone.

I only noticed the woman's eye after I had taken the shot (of course!) so I was a bit disappointed with just getting the white of her eye on camera. It took me a while to notice the problem simply because the guy seemed to be the focal point of the shot.

So much to learn.

Thanks again all.

Cliff
