At my last shoot I met a photographer who had one. That big LCD screen is to die for. I'm 43 and it can be tough to see the 20D's screen. However, I'm blessed with nearsightedness and can lift up my glasses to be able to easily see up close. Still, that preview screen is something else.

On the other hand, the 40D is still not a full-frame.

In all truth, the screen doesn't make that much difference when looking to see if the pic is out of focus (I hate zooming but do it when I need to)

But, the 40D is a great camera

By the way, the 20D isn't full frame either :p

Next incarnation of 5D will have 3” screen, most likely.
With better resolution, I hope.
Wait another 3 months and you'll have it..

One thing about crop cameras, with the lenses you use, you're not to the outer
edges were you'd get more aberrations, you're shooting through the 'better' area
of the lens, for me, moving to a FF I've not had that urge, happy with the 20D
BUT I agree, a larger screen for chimpin' would be sweet, plus I hear tell it does
a bit better at higher ISO's than the 20D? would that be correct?

I know. It's essentially a 40D two versions back. It will be a choice for me whether I want to go full-frame with a 5D (or 6D when it comes out) or stay crop bodied with a 40D. Full frame isn't perfect. I hear there are vignetting issues on some lenses.

Yes there are, but vignetting is one of the easiest things to fix in PP.
Besides, there are many photographers who use vignetting for creative purposes..

I didn’t find the bottom layout uncomfortable on my 40D.
Admittedly, I never tried it with the grip..

Not an issue for me - and I am shooting with a grip. Frankly, I find the 3" LCD screen to be a bit of overkill. The 2.5" on the 5D and the MKIIN were fine for me.

So far so good. I did a photo shoot with a model with it last Friday. Did a few landscapes yesterday, but really haven't had much of a chance to really put it through its paces. I'm hoping to do several more shoots this week and we'll see how it does.

3" lcd is useless when the glare is still eminently present. It needs to be brighter and higher res!

yes, I'm not quite a fan of having buttons on the bottom. also, fellow photog also complained how they changed the interface. You have to use different dials and such to change ISO and things like that. So what you were so used to on the 10/20/30D now no longer works on the 40D. What's up with that canon???
