Well... just pulled the trigger over at B&H. I have 3 Pocket Wizard Plus IIs on the way! One for each flash and one for the trigger. ;) Plus a hot shoe adapter for my 580EX. Can't wait to test these out!! Playing around with Canon's wireless flash system was just aggravating me to death, so hopefully these are much better! :D

What was your total bill for the pocket wizard plus IIs setup? I'd love to be able to use them, but damn they are expensive.

They were $188.95 each x3 = $566.85.

So I understand, are the receivers also a trigger if you make it? Or do they have specific triggers and receivers?

That's one thing that has confused me about PW's.

These are receivers/transmitters. From my reading, they automatically switch to transmit when a signal is sensed from your camera hot shoe.

Sweet, that's what I figured, but didn't know. I didn't ask yet because I'm not in the market for them quite yet. I'm just diddling with a sync cord and optical slave.

Do come back and tell how your first photo shoot with them goes.

Hey! A carbon copy of what I did two weeks ago. You won't regret it. Enjoy!

Hopefully that will be this Saturday! Whenever I order from B&H, I tend to get my order the next day since I'm not terribly far from NY. My best friend just got married two weeks ago. I couldn't shoot the wedding since I was in it. Well him and his wife were not very happy with the photos they got from the photographer they hired, so we're shooting some this Saturday... as long as the weather holds out... ;)

Heh... I'm waiting for my PW Plus IIs as well. I also ordered three. They're scheduled for delivery Monday.

From this thread, it says you lose all ETTL with PW plus II connection even you are using EX580s, does it mean PW plus II with third party flashes are more economical way to set up wireless flash photography if you do everything manual without ETTL. (Maybe ETTL is kinda overrated anyways, right?)

You're correct, you will lose ETTL, and yes, it may be more economical to use SunPacks or the like. But no, ETTL is not overrated IMHO. ;) I use ETTL quite a bit. Which is why I went with two speedlights. I use ETTL when my subjects are on the move. But when they're still, and I have time to set up the shot, I'll use manual flash. ;)

Hmmm... if you have two EX5xx, you can use one 580 as master on your hotshoe and the other as slave (as long as EXxxx) without PW plus II... unless you like both of your EXxxx off the camera... oh, that's right, you ordered 3 PW plus, two on flashes and one on camera...hehe

Yep... you got it... hehe... ;)

Plus, I'm finding that I'm not a big fan of Canon's IR system...
