Am I the only one that does NOT like the huge LCD on the 40D? That's the what I hate most about the 5D as well...I mean how many professionals really shoot based on how it looks in the LCD? All I wanna see is my histogram, and I don't need a 3" histogram, lol.

Anyone else wish it were 20D sized again? That is what I hate most about the 40D and 5D. I hate the it touches my cheek while I'm shooting, wheras it didn't on the 20D and it is so close to the viewfinder that i have to turn image review off so that it isnt bright in my eye when I'm wanting to take multiple shots.

I honestly thing that 3" is probably too big.
2.5" was perfect...that extra half inch was too much.
and I haven't had a problem with the screen shining in my eye because i'm right back with a half press on the shutter to focus again.

but 3" looks akward on the rear of the camera.

Switched to the "dark side" but I like these boards.
Digital: Nikon D200
Lenses: Nikkor 50 1.8D, Nikkor-P 55 macro 3.5, Nikkor 35 1.8G Nikkor 85 1.8.
Film: Canonet QL17 G-III, Bell&Howel/Canon Dial 35,

I've got a 10D, 30D, and 40D.

I love the screen on the 40D. It could certainly be sharper, but I love the size. Yes, I get nose prints all over it but I was able to do that with the 10D as well. The only downside for me is the location of the buttons to accomodate the new LCD. Those buttons are now all too easy to press accidentally when I put the camera down in my lap.

I was getting the 30D ready as a backup for an airshow this weekend and I just stopped and stared at what now seems a small screen and remembered when I was amazed by how much bigger and better it was over that of the 10D.

I'll spare you my reactions upon looking at the 10D again....

I'd have to agree.... Not really a big fan of the larger LCD. Been shooting with the 20D for a while and thought that it was big enough.

On both my 20 and 40D I've disabled the LCD until I really want to look at it and I really don't look at it too much unless I think I need to change my settings.

If you actually mean viewfinder, that would be most of them, most of the time. If you mean LCD, then that would be everyone who uses LiveView.

Another nice thing about a big LCD is that the menu is now nice and big.

You'll appreciate things like that when your eyes get a bit older....

crobs808,
I am very happy with the larger LCD screen on my 40D for multiple reasons. :)
So NO I don't wish my 40D or 5D screens were smaller

I like the LCD size, though wish it was a higher Res, it is handy to check shots, or if you are bored between shots etc to view a few.Bigger LCD means speed for me to to see histograms etc, better as well in bright light.
and lets not even mention Live View :)

i dont see use for Live View in what i do. (mostly weddings and nature/outdoor)...it seems like they added LiveView for people used to low-end consumer cameras...like just a come-on feature, but not really usefull if you actually end up buying it, because liveview is made for holding the camera out in front of you to take a pic...i guess thats ok if you arent using a battery pack or nice/heavy lens and external flash. hmm, not trying to dis or anything, just racking my brain for when i might use live view, and cant think of a situation.

I'd rather have the bigger LCD than nothing. On the 20D, I thought there was a lot of room in the back that was justed wasted.

It's sort of like buying a LCD monitor for your PC that had a frame that was 20" diagonally but the actual screen itself is like only 15".

Of course, if Canon decided to increase the size of the camera body to fit a 5" LCD in the back, that would be dumb.
