Fantastic camera, and it's noticeably sahrper than my 40D.

Coming from the 1DmkIIn I always felt that my 40D was soft and boy was I right. My 5D PQ is alot sharper than the 40D, while I can achieve a level of sharpness close to the 5D (with the 40D) it takes more sharpening during PP.

I think the combination of these tw cameras will do very nicely for anything I need to cover.

I love my new 5D!

Mdrtoys,

Don't confuse the higher resolution as being "sharper" than your 40D. Your images appear sharper than your 40D because they have higher resolution.

The 5D has a pretty weak AA filter (thankfully), and is appears sharper than, say, 1D II/1Ds II's. It's not just the resolution, the sensor is "sharp".

I appreciate and understand the comment about the resolution, but people won't take that into account when they look at the picture...to them, the 5D will be sharper.

Well, obviously the AF isn't as good (hence the 40D). The IQ is a little better, but the MKIIn was one of the best cameras I've ever had.

If it weren't for wanting a full frame camera, I never would have parted with the 1D....But these two cameras together cover everything I could possibly want to do.

Though I am thinking about getting a 1D classic again :D

I also found the 5D to be better than ANY 1.6x body I have owned in the past.

Welcome to the club ;-)a the 5D can achieve some stunning results with more detail than ever before.

I'm still a noob to DSLR, but started shooting 35mm SLR about 15 years ago. I took my first 5D test drive the other day and I must say.....I was very impressed. I took several shots around the camera shop and the detail and color of my mundane store shots stunned me.....Enjoy....I wish I had the $$$$ for the 5D myself.:(

Had the same reaction as you. I was completely underwhelmed by the results of the 40D and I came from a 10D which makes great photos. So underwhelmed that I went right out and bought a 5D. The first 10 images out of my 5D completely blew away the 1000s of photos I have taken with my 10D and 40D. I was astounded really. The 40D is going to eBay.

I didnt think much of the 40D either, despite all the hype on here I felt it was too much like the 30D, I never liked that camera much either, the 5D suits me far better.
