While i'm waiting for my first kingston flush mount album to be finished, i was wondering if there are such a thing as a flush mount type of photo book. like the magazine style where even after you open it up, the center gutter line won't be constrained.

Is there such a thing?

Queensberry Digital albums are like that - you lose almost nothing in the center (a few mm), and they open flat. Proper album companies tend to do it that way, not so much book companies. Albums cost more than books, often a lot more.

Thanks Tim. I was hoping there will be a photobook company that does that. I have some brides that bought their albums, but would like to have the same format like their flush album but in a photobook style to give to relatives.

So, that's why i'm here scratching my head trying to figure it out. I was hoping I didn't have to redesign the whole layout again in indesign to do so.

Actually Tuscany is just like Kingston - a very small gutter, but it's a real album. I think the closest to what you are looking for is Graphi. They've built their business on not having a split seam in the middle of the book. They have a lot of different products, and I'll bet one of them is what you are looking for...

rui, terminolgy is puzzling in the world of albums, I think. So I can help, what is your definition of a photo book vs album? And when you say..."center gutter won't be constrained..." what is constrained?

It might be that Vision Art books satisfy your criteria...pages lay flat, printed across folded gutter (no cut)...photo cover. Has a heavier look and feel than the Asuka book but not as heavy as the leather bound albums. Page stiffness about the same as Graphi's thin page option, I'd say.

Glad to help but need to understand exactly what you're after. Best.

Thanks Jamie.. I just looked into Graphi and looks like that's what i am looking for. I just hope when I submit the layout i can submit it as 10x20 per slide for the 10x10.

actually, i think an album is generally on matte materials per sides and the photobook is like the asuka style, or my publisher, blurb, etc. kinda thin paper like. but looks like graphi is the type i'm talking about. time to check on the vision art type.

rui,

Graphi books don't come in 10x10 or 10x20. They have 12x12's and 14x14's. They also have smaller versions 8x8 and 6x6's. You may have found this out already.

And yes they are full spreads. They have a patent on their books where they are seamless.

I talked to the fellow who owns Candid 2000 and Tuscany a few weeks ago. He told me that he's planning to make Tuscany a separate company and is also going to introduce a line of photobooks similar to Vision Art in the very near future.

He just said sometime after November. I'm rather anxious to see what they come up with.

I've seen wedding photobooks by Momento that are really good, problem is they are in Australia, and I can't find an international link anywhere.

I hope thats not the case. If it's the same owner, I would think that customer accounts would be transfered, or synced over to Tuscany, while retaining accounts with Candid2000.
