and, while out shooting, I was packing the gear up and "weeeeeeeeeeeee" the tripod falls over. Damn new tripod, Im not used to using it. GRRR. I now have a nice chip out of the body near the top LCD and a few scuff marks too. I'm quite annoyed at myself.

Please re assure me that its ok, and this has happened to others before. I feel like a sh*t!

The camera is still working perfectly, as it landed on the lens hood, but went bouncing on the rocks.

What would you recommend for touch up paint, even though I dont need to, I would like to. Something from the hobby shop maybe?

Cheers

Ill go cry now.

Buy one of those body armor kits. I think they sell for 49.00. You wont ever see the damage again (at least not daily) and will feel better that it has some protection.
Or sell it to me at a huge discount and try again.. heh

Hehe, I don't think I will be selling it any time soon. It is still working great andd makes great images. I can't believe how big the viewfinder is. I think its bigger than the 1D Mk III viewfinder.

I don't want to get body armour, it looks terrible. I will just have to be careful with it next time.

In the long run it was going to get scratched up anyway. I'm really only concerned about the metal being exposed.

I feel your pain. I have lusted a 5D too and it will be a major budget dent if I get one. That would be real hard to take on the first day. Im glad for you that it takes great images and works fine. I cant think of anything to cover the damage that would look professionally applied.

Ooof Mike, really sad hearing this. Got mine 10 days ago and there's nothing that says the cam isn't new, though it's got 1000 shots on its shutter already. :-P

Glad the cam is okay though, but why couldn't you let your 30D fall over instead?! :-o

Yeah, I think its fine. Just didn't want to screw it up aesthetically on the first day. But its barely noticeable. I know its there though, and its niggling me.

Im going to look at the hardware store for some kind of touch up material, there might be some putty kind of stuff that's a similar colour that I can fill it with. I have heard of people using a metallic paint from a hobby store also.

I'm trying to get over it, but its hard at the moment.

David, I know. I was testing it out on some landscaped. I'm really pissed off at the moment. I'm glad yours is going good. I'm over it now. I will live with it, I can't do anything about it now.

My only worry is the exposed metal, its not much though.

Hehe, don't try to get over it, just do get over it... nothing possible to do and it only shows you've used the camera so it's seeing some use!

:D

edit: Exposed metal? Well, take a look at my 20D. Then you'll stop thinking that your exposed metal is a "noooo" thing. ;)

Yeah, Im getting over it. Just dont want my Dad to get upset about it. I wont tell him. I know it is showing use, but a little too much when I have only had it for a few hrs.

Ok, cheers Dave. I feel a bit better now. Still first day, and I let it fall. Feels like I have just dropped my baby. Well, I have actually.

And, its going to be a landscape camera anyway mostly. So I was just breaking it in. Hopefully it will be good for me. It will acquire more scratched as its life goes on. Ill live with it.

BTW, I just love the smooth shutter. Its just like the one on the 1D III. Soooo nice.

Mike, stop thinking about this! I made a BIG dent in my compact camera a long time ago when it was almost brand new... I mean, a dent in the body that covers 10% of the camera is worse than a tiny scratch that covers like 0.001% of the camera, right? :)

Smooth shutter it's got, yes, but how can you compare it to a 1D3? 5D is like "clunk-clee" and the 1D3 is like "karatt".

What I'm trying to say is that the 5D has got a slow shutter and the 1D3 a very fast shutter.

:-P
