I think we have just seen how it can a) go wrong and b) be put right again.
Tommy and Timmy (oh dear... did that sound bad to anyone else?) just had a misunderstanding over use of smilies, and indeed it is a common misunderstanding to have... I know, I've been there.

I'm sure everyone comes onto a forum as part of their hobby, for fun, entertainment and also to get some damn good tips/info. Some come here to share their knowledge, some to gain knowledge. But I hope I would be right in saying we all come here because we love photography, which is great. Lets not have the small misunderstandings tarnish that!

 :D :) :P  :p

Gratuitous use of smilies optional.... ;)

If in doubt, I shut up...

Gear: 40D, 12-24mm AT-X Pro, 17-85mm, Sigma 150mm Macro Sigma 100-300 F4, 550EX, other stuff that probably helps me on my way.

Oh sh!t, .... RUUUUUUN !

We need some more emoticons here....
For example, to best describe the timmyquest vs. tommykjensen match in this thread this is the best emoticon:

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO

and a more appropriate equivalent for tommykjensen's description:
IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO

j/k guys

In spite of taking a beating for what I am about to say, I hate those little emoticons. I have only used them one time and it was due to losing a bet on a message board over a football game.

Never will you see one of those disgusting little yellow round heads on any of my posts.

On shooting sports...If you see it happen then you didn't get it.

You guys crack me up!

I, too, appreciate the humor and levity on this forum, and I wouldn't mind even more of it. :)

A note, however, to our native English speakers on both sides of the Atlantic and "down below": not everyone will "get it". Get it? ;)

By the way, I love the little yellow faces. They're very important, especially in a multi-lingual, multi-cultural environment. 8)

Yeah, I was going to add a bit about that as a joke but decide not to. (my meaning: mischievous grin ;))
