I've been asked by a friend to shoot their wedding, and have never done a wedding before. The equipment I have is an Elan film body, 40D with Grip, 20-35 2.8L, 28-135 3.5-5.6 IS USM, 70-300 4-5.6 IS USM, Speedlight 430EX. I'm wondering if the lenses I've got are going to be suitable or if I should go to rentcameragear.com and rent something else. On that site, I'm looking at the 24-70 F2.8L or the 25-105 F4L IS. Given the IS on my 28-135, is that going to do ok for me, or should I think more about the other two. I'm kinda leaning toward the 24-70 F2.8L, but want to find out if this is the right choice.

Also, I'm thinking I may rent the 580EX flash, and use my 430 off camera.

Thanks!

Howdy Rich!
I would no use anything other than a quick low light lens---------2.8 is great. I personally use 17-55 2.8 IS and 70-200 2.8 IS for 95% of my shots.
I am a fan of lensrentals.com -- roger is a great guy---fwiw

Use the 20-35 on 40D and your flash. You can add an 85/100/135/70-200 on the Elan body for farther shots.

Without knowing your skills first-hand, I'll say it will be crucial to know how to use the tools in a wedding setting.

You might get by with those lenses, the key is to learn as much as possible before then. Have a read of the FAQ.

I used a 28-135 IS when I shot my first wedding together with a 17-40 L and a 70-200 f/4 L. I lost some potentially nice shots because I couldn't get the shutter speed high enough and maintian acceptable noise levels.
I decided I woldn't let htis happen again and have recently purchased the 70-200 f/2.8 IS.
I'm certain that most of the pros will recoomend this lens and that many will also recommend the 17-55 f/2.8 IS. You really do need fast lenses to do the job.
I would strongly recommend hiring a couple of lenses for the day.
