Is it just me or does it seem like there is alot of B&W shots being posted in the sharing sections? As one of the people that isnt really into B&W type shots (unless you are trying to make it look like a old time pic) it seems like there is more and more B&W shots showing up in all the areas and not just in the still life, B&W and experimental section at the bottom of the sharing section.

Maybe a section for B&W only shots would be in order or put a little note that this sharing has B&W shots in it. Just a rambling on here about this because I like to see everything in color vs B&W, not trying to step on any toes or question others likes in photos just a observation.

Less rambling, more looking is in order. There IS a B&W section: "Still Life, B/W & Experimental" ;)

However, I'm one of those who enjoy B&W photos (not that I've done many and posted less). I'd like to debate the issue if you'd like. There is a thread in the G&N section (LINK TO THREAD, non-nude, safe for work) where a B&W is compared to a color shot. My comments (LINK TO COMMENTS) illustrated my feelings about how the B&W conversion was far superior to the color shot.

I do not feel that as a photographer, it is our responsibility to accurately convey what is seen in the world. It is our art to convey how we see the world. Often color will add too much information to a photo. Sometimes B&W helps to hide information or soften a scene. Other times you want to get the emotion across with as little confustion as possible.

As for the appropriate forum for ALL B&W photos, I'd have to say "Put them where you feel they fit best." Yes, that means B&W photos of sunsets in the Nature forum from time to time. However, the photographer may feel that it is more a nature shot than B&W. You can feel free to comment otherwise when you see it. Feel free to ask "So why didn't you post this in the B&W forum?" Just don't expect a warm response.
