I have just received my 40D, and have downloaded the upgrade to ACR 4.2. I have placed the new ACR file in the location indicated by Adobe (where the old one was located):
c:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats
I have done this twice, and have checked and double-checked that the file is in the proper location. However, when I look at 40D images in Bridge, all I see are generic Windows image icons. When I try to open an image in PS, I get an error message that the file is the wrong type.
I tried to follow these directions from the Adobe site:
"NOTE: If generic camera thumbnails appear in Adobe Bridge, follow the these steps:
1. Check to make sure the plug-in was installed in the correct directory in step 4 above.
2. Start Bridge.
3. Choose Tools > Cache > Purge Central Cache. "
Unfortunately, when I choose Tools > Cache in Bridge, "Purge Central Cache" is not an option. All I can do is purge the cache for the current directory, which does not help at all.
In another thread here, someone suggested opening PS and having it check for updates. This apparently solved this same issue for another person. However, when I do this, it tells me that there are no new updates available.
So, I am stumped. I have followed the directions for installing ACR 4.2 to the letter, and I still can't see my 40D images. I would appreciate any help or advice (other than to use something other than CS3; I have tens of thousands of images in CS3, and I am not going to start using someting new
).
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
