I have started to receive the dreaded Err 99 message on my Canon 30D.

I've tried:
-Cleaning the contact points for the lens
-Switching CF cards
-Switching Lens'
-Switching Batteries

After I turn off the camera, removing the battery, reinsert the battery, and turn the camera back on i can get 5 clicks off before I receive the Err 99.

I'm at a loss, & very frustrated. I did purchase the camera from best buy, along with there 4yr replacement plan. I would rather not have to go through all that without trying any tips you have for me.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Is it doing it with all lenses, or only one?

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

All the lens'.

No I have not removed the backup battery. How long should I take it out for, just a minute?

Doesn't take long, but I would leave it out for a teas a minute or so to let all the capacitance bleed out of the system.

Sounds like a call to Canon service is in order. They will walk you through some debugging steps and probably request that you send in the body. Unfortunately, ERR99 is a catch all ERR code and can me anything that is not covered by any of the other ERR codes. I really wish Canon would expand their codes breaking ERR99 into several pieces.

I think I remember being told that you need to pull the button battery as well as the battery(ies) for about 45 minutes for all stored power and storage is flushed.
Then you have a total re-set situation.

Lotsa stuff, running outta room and a wife...I keep looking at her and wondering???

Ditto...I had the same experience on mine 5 months after I bought the camera. They ended up replacing the shutter assembly and the release control. Go ahead and send it in.

Sorry to hear about your 30D Ryan.

Peace,
Yanis :(
