Before I backup my images to CD-ROM, I use a product called QuickPar to generate parity files. In the event the CD-ROM "loses" one or more of my files, I can use QuickPar to recover the files. For added security, I toss in the QuickPar installation file (500K).
I have yet to encounter an actual use for this. I'm thinking about creating a backup CD and scratching it on purpose just to see what it can do.
Does anyone else out there have any experience with data recovery methods for their CD-ROMs or DVDs?
