Nooo mate, Opel and Holden are both subcompanies of General Motors, as i'm sure you know. That means that a lot of the name variants and to an extent some of the design variants are spread across a few different companies. Opel had a car branded "Commodore" in the 60's/70's which died in the 80's. Holden (under same management of Opel -GM) also during the 70's developed a new car and adopted the name Commodore (which continues today). They have little similarities in actual look and no similarities when it comes down to the engine. Commodores are built local and then exported to America under the badge of Chevvy and Asia under the badge of Opel. They're also sold in other places under Vauxhall. Not to my knowledge though, do they export Utes, but i'm not sure about that - America might get some kind of ute coming in but i'm not sure. Basically - they're a locally designed, locally produced and extremely proudly driven cars. They're concidered some of the best on Aussie roads and have a huge following down here. It's not a rebadged anything, as a matter of fact what you guys are getting up there are rebadged Holden's! Was just reading right through this thread, im a massive holden fan, love them.
