Is the G9 a good street shooter?

Hi,

I was wondering if when using the G9 in A or P modes you can lock you ISO so you are assured of always having the lowest noise? I would rather have the aperture vary when street shooting quick grab shots than have the ISO moving around and increasing the noise.... (I have had to think of noise instead of grain.....)

On the SD 550 on manual I always shoot ISO 80 and let the camera pick the rest... Can this be done with the G9 in A, P Modes? If you choose manual mode will you also have to set both shutter and aperture before you take a quick grab shot...?? if this is the case an SD870 IS or SD950 IS would probably be a better street shooter than the G9.

Any G9 users out there want to chime in??

If you choose ISO 80 or 100 on the dial, it will remain there when shooting. Is this what you are looking for?

G9 is fine for street photos, unless flash is needed over 7ish feet. Then you would need a 220EX (or other Canon flash)

1. Set your ISO
2. Put G9 is AV mode
3. Use rear wheel to set f stop.
4. Mute sounds to not attract attention.

Enjoy

If you want a TRI-X B&W look...

1. Set ISO to 400
2. Shoot RAW (use a program like Lightroom to get the "feel" you want)
3. Set G9 to AV mode
4. Use rear wheel to set f stop
5. Mute sound to not attract attention

Mute sound to not attract attention? What happens when the in-built flash or 220EX gives 'em a blast in the face?

They trun as white as ghosts. The EX 430 or 580 II works better because you can aim the light in different dirrections and use Omnibounces.

My personal opinion is that if you are going to attach big flash guns to the G9 it doesn't make it discreet no more, so you might as well get the D-SLR out where you can use the higher ISO performance advantage rather than use flash.
