i just noticed my 300D takes denser shots than my 30D does? Is there a setting where I can get more dpi recorded on my 30D? it seems to be random too, some 300d shots are at 72dpi too...

The 180 dpi or 72 dpi are just numbers that are assigned by the editing software. They have no practical meaning at all. "Be seeing you."
