My gear, at $10,000+, is worth more than my car or my annual university tuition. To date, I've made exactly $540 from photographic services, over the last 3 years.
So yeah, it's pretty much a very expensive hobby. It scares me to think how I'd spend my money if I actually had a full-time job.

It's just a hobby for me at the moment. I mostly do automotive stuff at the moment, take photos of cars that show up to meets and cruises, and post them up on the local car meets website. I just bought my first DSLR (400D), upgraded from a Fuji S5000.


Canon Eos 5 | 28-135mm | 20-35mm | 50mm 1.8 | modified 28-80mm | 540EZ
As many megapixels as I could ever want all rolled into a film canister.

I fall between the last 2. It's a hobby, not a side job.. but I've still sold prints here and there.
