Hi All
Yesterday MDoc (Ray) and I met up at Lowery Park Zoo in Tampa, he graciously allowed me to use his Canon 100-400 lens, as I am thinking of getting one for Christmas, well after yesterday I am definitely getting one.
(to get this shot with my Sigma 70-300 DG macro I would have had to use my Tripod, MLU and Remote release).
Here are a couple of an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake in the Reptile house.
Thanks for looking, CC welcomed.
Both of these shots are handheld in very low light with IS enabled
If Exif doesn't show.
ISO 1600, Shutter speed 1/40, Aperture f/5.6, Focal length 235mm

Thank you Dave, I agree on the shutter speeds, I have a few more pics of this particular snake and they are a little blurred, I think I took 10 pics and only 3 or 4 came out with this level of sharpness straight out the camera.
IS helped a lot.
The minimum shutter speed for these focal lengths 400mm (640 crop factor) with IS at 3 stops would be 1/80.
and 235mm (376 Crop Factor) with IS at 3 stops would be 47 1/50 minimum hand holding speeds
So I was just below the limit.

Nice quality shots for settings listed and handheld. Don't care much for snakes though.

Great results Allan!
The IS on this lens even though it's not the newest and greatest does its job.
IMO 100-400 is a must have lens if you're planning to shoot wildlife or airshows; buy it.

Great shots Allan, I've never used the 100-400, but I've seen others work done with one and they seem to produce excellent quality. I also looked at your meerkats, great job on those, I especially like the one with the dark background.:D
