There is one additional step to turning off Canon i9900 color management that I found helpful: disable automatic paper type detection.
To do so, open the Printer Properties dialog click the Maintenance tab then click Custom Settings. Uncheck the option to Identify Paper Type and 'send' the new settings to the printer.
When I had this option checked, it didn't matter what other settings I used, the printer would always choose the profile associated with the paper (glossy, plain, matte, etc.).
So to summarize, here's how I turn off the i9900 color management:
In the Printer Driver dialog:
- I set Color/Intensity to "Manual", then click the Set button
- I then set the Print Type to "None"
- I make sure the "Identify paper type" option in Maintenance > Custom Settings is disabled.
