It's a living, breathing, healthy and good looking male. At least, I'm assuming it's a male.

What living, breathing, healthy and good looking male DOESN'T like beer? Comon Mike, you know better than that!

lloyd. ;)

I meant to add an insightful reply but forgot.

I burnt myself out with photography when I went to school for it. Spending 16 hours a week in a darkroom, 10 hours shooting, and 2 hours critiquing just got to me.
This turned me off of it and made me stop going to school. Now however I feel renewed and try to enjoy what I'm doing. If I ever go full-time I will have to apply some sort of free fun shoots to keep things fresh.

Wow, Bryan, great insight. I've only just started and I've already been feeling this way, so I can imagine how people feel after years. I think I'm going to go out and shoot for fun today :D

Tip for Bryan: Don't forget to feed Al too!

I went out with some friends to do a couple shoot. Very similar to an e-shoot, I practice a bit of off-camera flash, posing, finding great locations for pics out of nowhere and overall, I just had a blast.

Now those pics are added to my PP backlog :( ;)

Bryan,

Good post and good points. It took me a long time in life to learn to balance work and self. Work is not everything...it is darn important but so are the other aspects in your life. Learn to keep things in focus...I work with folks who will not take a vacation as they are convinced that the company will begin to fail the moment they leave! Don't fall into this trap.

Feed that plant, feed Al, and feed yourself, and keep it all in perspective.

It also took me a long time to achieve any sort of life-work balance, and I'm finally starting to get there. By night (and weekends!) I am a stock/commercial/wedding photographer, and by day I'm an account manager for a major corporation. Having a career where your income is based on commission and being competitive by nature its been easy in the past for me to get too wrapped up in my work and forget about the aspects of my life that I love - fiancee, photography, etc.

With photography sometimes the same scenario can creep up - you get so absorbed by shooting for clients, editing for clients, taking shots with the intention of selling them, it's so easy to forget why we picked up a camera in the first place, and even why we like shooting the genres that we chose to create businesses around. It's easy to forget that I love doing commercial & product shoots because I'm an advertising nut. I forget that hiking to a scene and taking it all in is why I love shooting landscapes, and sometimes you just have to go out and shoot simply because you love to take photographs.

So, great post Bryan, and it really is a universal concept. The stuff from David Jay is a really interesting way to look at things. I'm overtired and I'm done rambling, hope this post makes a bit of sense!

As a beginner to photography, I have aways wanted to learn, I found this website and love learning from it, I work for a company that pushes and pushes to make the employees go out and make money for them, I have a boss that said to me once "the more you work the more money I will make, the wife can stay home with the kids and the husband goes to work to pay the bills", I cant wait to learn all I can about Photography so I can hopefully do it as a career. I love looking through the lens of a camera and seeing life a whole different way.

Nice, bryan

Your girlfriend is very smart...you need to add parts of that to your blog.

My husband is a workaholic and it has taken YEARS to adjust to that, at first I tried to change him, fight argue scream, etc. Now, I've just learned to accept it is what it is and when he changes, I hope I'm not the work a holic then, lol.

Enjoy life, simply, remember to smell the roses. and...

Life is NOT greener on the other side.

Well I think all credit to Bryans girlfriend that stirred these thoughts in him, to then come here and inspire us.

BRYAN: I think you should buy her a similar gift in return... like THIS (external link) :) It's a bit of a cheesy toy, but I bought one for my an ex gf many years ago... and the smile on her face was priceless ;)
