Another batch of images from the Elkhorn trip. One again these were all taken with the 20D & 500mm f/4 L or 400mm f/5.6L and all were hand-held. EXIF data is intact as always. C&C encouraged.

great job. Elkhorn Slough is a treasure chest of opportunities, and you have done exceptionally well with them.

Thanks Steve. Cormorants do tend to have jewel-like eyes. And for my part, the Pleagic is our prettiest Cormroant here in Northern CA. I would like to get some better images of one someday...

Thanks for the kind words Larry. Yep, Elkhorn is a wonderful location of birds. I do need to get back there in the spring though, when their colors will be at their peak.

Excellent series, Ed. We visited Elkhorn Slough back in July and can't wait to return probably in October 2009. Did you do the Safari, visit the preserve or both? We did both and it was super. In addition to the birds, we saw a raft of 75 otters in the Slough.

Ed: Thanks for the kind words. We just did the Safari, but we did two trips - morning and evening. Net time I plan to do the preserve as well. As for the otters, my first post from this trip was of the Sea Otters. Here is the link: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4036

Thanks Mitch. There were a few more as well, but there are so many GBH and Egret postings that I didn't bother with any of those. I wasn' thrilled with my Loon images (only a couple anyway) and as they are one of my favorite birds, I won't post anything that's not up to snuff of those guys. Also, they are really much more beautiful when they aren't in their winter plumage.
