Backup Camera

Dear all,

I keep reading that many of you have a main Camera e.g. 5D and a keeping his old 400D for example as a backup.

What is meant exactly/practically by that, a backup for what is it for example if a sudden malfunctioning happened while on duty or what exactly and is it worth it.

When I use that term it is exactly that--a spare of equal of less capability that can be used in case of a failure.

My .02 cents is it is an absolute necessity for a working pro--or serious amateur--be it a body, flash,lens,or any other piece of essential gear.

But thats just my opinion

Backup - for any reason it may be needed. Period.

As a semi-pro bass player, I cannot be without a backup instrument... mine's a $200 Mexican Fender in place of my customized Japanese Fender.

Same applies to photography.

It can be a backup camera in case your main camera fails, and also used as a second camera ready with a different lens on it (very common for sports for instance, one body with long tele prime and one body with a shorter tele zoom).

Im getting a 5D to backup my IIn

I will someday upgrade from my 10D, but I'll keep it AND the XT (which replaced my D30 as my backup to the 10D)as backups...the latter for traveling...
for which I have a backup...for my traveling backup XT I would take my A95 PnS which takes the same CF cards...AND will take my OLY film PnS cam to back up the digital...
