I have the BG-E2 grip on my 20D. Does your battery door pop open when you slide the switch to open it or do you have to open the door yourself?

The grips on the D60 and 5D both "pop" , but not on the 20D. I never noticed this before. The BG-E2 went in to Canon repair for the recall fix, and I don't remember what it did before that. Ron.

Nov 11, 2007 10:17 | #6 Hmmm.... mine which does not pop open also was sent to Canon for the "recall fix". I am wondering if the opens that pop open are the ones that were produced later, not needing the "recall fix". Johnny J. Chin ~ J. Chin Photography

Mine wasn't but was bought from here of another user, so can't tell you it's history.

My 20D and D60 grips operate pretty much the same as above, but I just noticed something else. It's very obvious from looking at the two grips side-by-side that the build quality of the BG-E2 on the 20D is inferior to the build quality of the BG-ED3 on the D60. The non-skid (for want of a better term) on the BG-ED3 goes all the way around onto the battery door and it doesn't on the BG-E2. The BG-ED3 fits the contours of the camera better, but the most noticable difference is that the BG-ED3 has two latching points on the battery door where the BG-E2 only has one. John

But after a few months, I noticed that it didn't anymore. Never gave it a lot of concern though. "If you're not living on the edge. You're taking up too much room !"
