Hey everybody, Ive wanted a decent printer for a very long time and just have never had any spare $$ for one, but the time has come and I cant decide which printer to get! Im on a somewhat tight budget so Ive narrowed it down to two....
Canon's Pro9000 or
Epson's R1800.

The two are fairly close in price but Im not sure. Who here has one of these two(or even better, had both!)? Ive used Epson's BIG printers before and loved them but dont have thousands to shell out and I will rarely print larger than letter size photos anyway.

Thanks!

Epson have a great reputation, if I were printing myself i'd get one of that line. I use a lab as it solves a lot of problems for me, ie no need for calibration or test prints.

I have the r1800. I am very happy with it and the line of paper they have.

The printer cost is absolutely irrelevant in the purchase of the printer. It is all about the ink. In very short order you will spend much more than the value of the printer on ink.

Fortunately the R1800 is very amenable to a CIS. Here is a blog entry I wrote on mine:

Thanks for the post JohnJ80, forgive my stupidity but what does CIS stand for? I see what you've done in your blog and the results are pretty interesting. Im pretty good with color management and everything Ive profiled/printed in the past has come out great. Sad thing is I no longer have access to the big dog Epson printers I used to so now I have to buy a printer

CIS=Continuous Ink System.

CIS is one of the reasons I like the R1800. Saves a ton of money and has great results. I believe that Mediastreet will actually do a profile for you on your printer and paper if you print off the test target and send it to them.

I would love my Epson R1800 only if i could get it calibrated to my monitor. Damn off calibration blows. That the plan for the weekend calibrate monitor and printer. Other then that i love it gonna get the media street CIS to from B&H.

No longer made, my friend. Is there a place that still has stock left?

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.
