Recently I was asked to make an offer on a friend of a friends sons kit.
The kit consisted of

1 x 400D
1 x 350D.
1 x Tamron 17-50 2.8
1 x 50 1.8
1 x 18-55 kit lens
1 x 430EX speedlite
1 x Lowepro Bag
4 x 2gb extreme III cards
16 x 2800 mh rechargeable Batteries

What value in £ would you pay for this?
I can make an offer and pretty much get this kit as they wasnted to sell it all for a quick sale, but I would like to offer a fair price also.

This kit is similar to my own, only I have bought a new 40D and I have already a Sigma 24-70 2.8.

I wouldn't give them any more than $1500 US and probably less than that if I could get away with it.

I was thinking more like $800-1000USD... $1500's outrageous unless it's L-unbelievably-NIB.

I would give him a case of CANADIAN beer for it. Final offer!

That equipment simply will not suffice for weddings (I assume that because you posted this in weddings that you are looking at getting into wedding photography).

It'd make a decent b'up kit with what he has though. ;)

I suppose so. But if he already has a siggy 24-70 (plus whatever else) does he really need a 17-50, an 18-55 AND a 50?

I personally wouldn't use a 400D or a 350D for a wedding, but, that's just me.

Neither would I, but not everyone can afford the higher end cameras for backup. I'd buy it and Ebay a good part of it to buy better stuff.

Well then they shouldn't be a wedding photographer.

If you are going to be a professional, you need the proper equipment. Not being able to afford something is a poor excuse, in my humble opinion.

If my 40 was down and my 30 was down and my 20 was down, I'd probably just draw the photos ;) lol

I once had only a 20D and a 50mm F1.4 working during a ceremony (fixed the rest afterwards), and it took a minute to get that working, that's brown pants time for sure. So failures DO happen. It was a problem with the bodies - contacts cleaned with an incorrect fluid. I'll get a 40D some time, so I have 3 bodies, and I have a fair swag of lenses so no backup problems here.

Yeah i have a new 40d recently, but I have done many family and child portraits with my 400D and sigma lens, the work I have done with my 400d and my old 350d go me the money to buy the 40d.
I know wedding photographers who use 400d's and 350d,s with great results. I think they use good glass with it though.

4 years ago top end pro cameras were no where near as good as the 400d.
I would be happy top shoot a wedding with a 400D and a 350D but with good glass.
I think its the togs skills and know how get the great results.

I'd value this about £900 if bought separately second hand. Maybe £800 altogether for a quick sale.
