I would give him a case of CANADIAN beer for it. Final offer!

That equipment simply will not suffice for weddings (I assume that because you posted this in weddings that you are looking at getting into wedding photography).

Yeah, I have 2 weddings booked for next summer.
I cant wait to get moving with weddings.
At the min im doing a fair bit of portraits and music photography, which is paying for my new equipment. I might buy that kit and make use of some of it like the tamron 17 - 50 2.8 instead of my sigma 24-70 2.8 which is not wide enough on my 40D and 400D.

Gear: Canon 40D - Canon 400D - Canon 17-55 2.8 IS - Tamron 17-50 2.8 - Nifty Fifty - Canon Speedlite 580EX II - Canon Speedlite 430EX - Tripod- Lowpro Bag - Bits n Bobs

Great to hear!

I think that if you go with that kit, you'll get a lot of useless items that you wouldn't need otherwise, to be honest. If I really want the wider angle, grab the Tamron 17-50 on it's own, it only runs for about $450 USD.

Just my $0.02 CND

Well then they shouldn't be a wedding photographer.

If you are going to be a professional, you need the proper equipment. Not being able to afford something is a poor excuse, in my humble opinion.

I think your statement is a little too harsh. In my opinion, the XT & the XTi is proper equipment and can produce quality images in the hands of a competent photographer. If a photographer can't produce a quality image with an XT and good glass, they may want to address their deficiencies first before investing in "pro" equipment.

A competent wedding photographer can use an XT/XTi and do well.

Yes, I agree that higher end cameras can produce a greater proportion of keepers in the same hands that produce quality images in the XT. It is a good goal to acquire better equipment when building a business. Take little steps at first. Walk, then run.

However, a professional earning income solely from their images will likely only buy something if the ROI is favorable. Why not drop 30K on the Hasselblad? Because I can't generate enough income from it yet to justify it's purchase. Should I not bother to shoot at all until I get it. No!:)

You've gotta start somewhere.

Again, my opinion.

Kevin
