Hi All,

How I love Lightroom! One feature that I found missing was the ability to select multiple pictures and the email them at the same time. With a little work I was able to begin sending multiple pictures from Lightroom. The key is to use a simple freeware program called MapiMailer, and a MAIP email program such as Outlook.

If you are an AOL user, start at Step 1.

If you already use Outlook to send and receive email through your ISP, jump to Step 2.

Step 1: Configure Outlook to send and receive AOL mail.

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
  2. From the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
  3. Click Add a new e-mail account and then click Next.
  4. Select IMAP, and then click Next.
  5. In the appropriate boxes, type the following information:
    • Your Name Asyou want it to appear to other people.
    • E-mail Address Enter your full AOL e-mail address that includes your screen name followed by @aol.com.
    • User Name Type your AOL screen name.
    • Password Type your AOL password. (Works best if you do this.)
    • Incoming mail server (IMAP) Type imap.aol.com
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP) Type smtp.aol.com

  6. Click More Settings.
  7. Click the Outgoing Server tab.
  8. Select the My outgoing server requires authentication check box.
  9. Click Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
  10. Click the Advanced tab, and in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) box, change the number to 587.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Click Next.
  13. Click Finish
(See http://office.microsoft.com …tlook/HA010936921033.aspx (external link) for more detailed instructions on setting up AOL to work through Outlook.)

Step 2: Install MapiMailer...
  • Navigate to http://lightroom-extra.com/ (external link)
  • Click on the the Download section
  • Click the link on the Downloads page, "Other Goodies".
  • Download the MapiMailer zip file
  • Unzip the file
  • Read the ReadMe.txt file
  • Install MapiMailer and follow the instructions on how to set up Lightroom to email multiple pictures.
Hope this works as well for you as well as it has for me.

~Dom

I guess it depends on what your objective is. If you are trying to send a small file with a few pictures to grandma, then it may be easier to create a PDF slideshow by exporting your pictures through the slideshow module. You can quickly put together a set of pictures, adjust to common screen sizes and lower the quality to reduce the final file size.

I put together a small slideshow with 7 pictures in less time than it took to write this post. I set the display resolution to 600x800 and lowered the quality to 80%. The final file size was only 760Kb and the original RAW files were over 6MB each.
