Cool F22 shot, I think i must have been standing right next to you. check out mine, it looks to be taken at almost exactly the same time.

Probably near each other. I was hanging behind the A-10 Warthog for the second half of the show. Nice shot of the F22 too!

Nothing fools a meter faster than dark jets against a "high sky."

Turn your back to the sun and meter off a grey card. Adjust aperture and ISO to where you can get a minimum shutter speed of 1/1000. Then (with either f/stop or ISO) give yourself 1/2 stop more exposure to keep the jets from being just dark, dark blue blobs against a cloudy sky. Shoot in manual so any slight variations in sky conditions don't make your meter chase the exposure.

Chimp like mad on the first couple of passes and when you get a histogram that is just slightly to the right of center, shoot those settings for the rest of the BAs demo. Use center point focus only so your AF doesn't chase clouds.

Remember when panning to pan through the shot. Don't pan to where you want to press the shutter then "stop and take the picture..." Follow through...

For prop driven aircraft, do the same exposure check as above but tweak your f/stop and ISO to where a shutter speed of between 1/250 and 1/320 will give you the proper exposure. This ensures you'll get some good blur in the props. Frozen props make it look like the plane just had an engine failure.

Thanks, Doood. I'm anxiously awaiting next weekend, hoping like mad that the weather cooperates!!!!

Ok.. I'm back with another question..

Tomorrow I'm going to the air show. The problem I face every year with this location nis that the crowd (where I'll be) faces the sun. Anybody have any tips?

I was able to go today and watch from outside of the airstrip. I tried to position myself so that the sun was to my back. However, it was a cloudy day, so it was struggle between getting the blue angels to look properly exposed, but blowing out the grey/white clouds. Any tips for that situation?

Thanks!

Monty, what were you using?

I was rather disappointed with today. The sky was hazy, and as I stated in an earlier post, the sun was in my face. So photos of the Blue Angels were either blown-sky or silhoutts of the planes. I hate that. I'm actually dreading looking at my photos from today.

Next year I'm just going to camp out outside of the airport on the southside and face north so that the sun will be to my back.

Plus, my 40D decided to start giving me "Error 99" codes randomly. So I'm quite pissed off. I tried reseating the lens, battery and card. Used different card and battery. I don't recall if I got it with a different lens because I didn't have a different lens on for very long.
