This past Friday a large dust storm enveloped Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport just as three F/A-18 Hornets from VFA-97 we preparing to depart for their home base - NAF Lemoore. Visibility dropped to near zero at 1:00 PM and they had to turn on the taxiway/runway lights. The Hornets had to abort and return to the FBO ramp in a hurry. I got lucky and captured a few photographs before the dust/rain ran me into the FBO building for shelter. After the storm passed, a C-130 departed for its home base in Wyoing. I got very lucky and was able to capture some vapor swirls during takeoff - a rare sight in AZ.

I've been going through a lot of my old stuff deleting garbage, re-editing the good stuff and finding a few diamonds in the rough.

These are from NAS Oceana, 2005. Let's say they are some of my best at the time. This was my first shoot with a DSLR and a lens large enough to take action in the air. They were shot as jpeg's and just enough knowledge to be dangerous.;)

Fortunately, I think the subject makes up for my lack of technical skill, at the time. Only the most awesome of carrier aircraft ever built.
