I recently read an article in Digital SLR Photographer about painting with light. I decided to experiment since it's too late to go OUT shooting. My lights wouldn't focus as tight as I wanted so here is what I did instead. Basically I left the settings alone, just changed camera and light possitions. And I know the first three aren't really painting with light but I wouldn't be able to have gotten them like that in daylight. (I wasn't sure if this should be in here or in "lighting" so mods, if you feel it belongs elsewhere go ahead and move it to where it should be)

Shooting Mode Manual Exposure
Tv(Shutter Speed) 10
Av(Aperture Value) 8.0
Metering Mode Evaluative Metering
ISO Speed 100
Lens 18.0 - 55.0mm
Focal Length 42.0mm

1. Scalpel, scissors and some razors. (The razors are mine, don't ask )

2. Watch, cuffs, tie chain and bracelet.(All mine ) Blue light from my airsoft gun held directly above.

3. Same as 2 but different angle. Blue light held about 4 feet above and to the side a bit.

4. My Guitar. White light used to trace the around the edges twice before the exposure ended. Same settings and only some level adjustments and hue to bring back it's natural color.

5. The setup I was shooting with. The camera is on it's side. I had the gun was propped on the bag for some other shots that didn't make the cut in review.

For all but the last I had the room lights off so the only illumination
came from the flashlights. Minor level changes on each photo and resizing, as well as borders on 1-3. My color options for the lights is exactly what is shown. Personally I like the guitar but really need to try it with different colors. C&C requested so I can change or try doing something differently next time I do dark shooting like this. I plan on making my own lightbox from https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=281524 . I doubt this, but if you have any questions about the shots just ask :)

Thanks. :) I like how the entire shot not evenly lit.

I guess I'm better than I thought if the 68 people that have viewed this are all speechless ?! (aside from you jayak)

Being a guitar player, I'm also partial to #4!

Kudos too for the final pic documenting the setup!

Cheers!

Thanks. I played it a little but never really got past a few learners songs.

Yeah, I wanted to show how I got those results in case anyone had some tips for different setups to change effects.
