Of course the times in question is the 1860s and this is a recruiting sign for the Union Army. I found this in a replica encampment at the reenactment of the Battle of Cedar Creek which took place at Kearny Park, Fresno, Ca. It is reported to be the largest Civil War reenactment in the west.

Interesting! I wish they burned the edge of the paper before 'decoupaging' it to the wood. And distress it a little to get that antique effect. Do you have any photos of the reenactment? Those are always fun to see.
