I've been using my mom's camera, to decide if I want to buy this one, or not. I don't understand how to turn off the automatic flash, on the basic zones. Or, atleast the zones that have automatic flash. Can I turn off the automatic flash on the zones, and modes?

I hope so...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not really... The camera is pre-programmed to operate more like an automatic point and shoot in the basic modes. You need to use the "Creative Zone" modes on the other side of the dial to be able to control the built-in flash.

In the basic zone modes, the camera decides whether or not to use flash. You can't turn it off, but you can select another mode. It won't flash in sports, landscape or flash-off modes.

If you do enter the world of DSLR photography, you'll be using the creative zone modes soon enough, and in those modes you have the option of using flash or not. You seem like the kind of person that wants to take control of your camera. This is a good thing. Once you learn to use the creative modes, you'll never need a green box again.

Thank you very much. :) That makes me feel a lot better. Because, I really do like this camera. I think I'm going to buy it, anyway. I don't think I would be using automatic mode, anyway. I never have used it with any of my cameras. So, hopefully I can get the hang of the creative modes. Thank you very much for your help. :) I'm glad I found this place.
