Here's what I want to do:

Compile high-resolution (2272x1704) jpegs into a slideshow program that I can add a soundtrack to and burn to a CD to play on other computers. I'd even like to be able to add my mpegs to the slide show, if possible.

I've tried the new iMac's iMovie and it was a horror to mess with. I'm a Window's person.

I'd like to know any software out there that anyone has had good luck with in this regard. Thank you!

Roxio Easy CD Creator (version 5 or higher) has all of the functions you are looking for, but isn't the cheapest option.

The biggest advantage is that you can very easily create autorun CDs with music playing behind your photo slideshow. AND, you can make video CDs that are compatible with many DVD players.

An earlier version that came bundled with my Hewlett Packard CD burner was very easy to use, but I upgraded to version 5 because of the above features.

Thanks Mitch.

Actually, I have used the program you suggested, but I could only get one song to attach to the whole program. If I attached a song, it would hold the first picture there until the song finished, then it would go onto the rest of the photos. Is there a way to fix this?

Also, is there any way to add captions to these photos using this program? Thanks.

I have not had that problem, but I know other people who have. When I use it the slideshow times itself to the music, so for example 60 images will stay on the screen for 5 seconds each with a 300 second song.

Try the discussion boards on the Roxio support site and you'll probably find a solution. Somewhere in the process you are attaching your song to a single image rather than the entire slideshow, and it's probably just a matter of finding the right switch. Best of luck.

(P.S. Are you using Platinum? I think there were some upgrades in this version that fixed some of the prior VCD and slideshow issues. Also, make sure you have the very latest version - you can download any fixes from the Roxio site.)

I use the MGI Videowave III software. Works like a breeze..... you can incorporate stills, videos(mpegs/avi/whathaveyou) and add music and text (for captions) separately.

Since you want to add mpgs, etc., you don't want PicturesToExe at present - maybe in next version.

Presently, ProShow Gold (PhotoDex) and edia@Show (INVALID EMAIL) (Cyberlink) allow that and each burn to DVD. ProShow Gold also has Ken Burns Effects (scroll, pan, zoom) but edia@Show (INVALID EMAIL) doesn't. Each will also let you add voice-over and/or background music.

I would strongly suggest that you convert your mpg's to avi format especially if they are quite large (they tend to be quite large). AVI's load much quicker and take up less room on your CD as well.

Both these programs as well as PicturesToExe also output to an executable format for Windows based machines.

Proshow gold from Photodex. It's easy and renders shows in multiple formats, tv, .exe, emails and web based shows through photodex's service. I've tried almost everything out there and it's far and away my favorite.

Have you looked at Microsoft's PhotoStory 3? Free, if you own XP:

Very nice, easy to use program. It generates a .wmv file, but you could encode that onto a CD/DVD with the software that comes with most burners.

Just out of curiosity, what did you find a "horror to mess with" in iMovie? Granted, I've been a Mac user for a long time but I was able to edit movies and make a slide show pretty easily with iMovie. You can even make a simple slide show in iDVD. (It will even automatically time the slides to fit the music.)

Maybe, you should consider purchasing "iMovie 6 & iDVD: The Missing Manual" http://www.amazon.com …-9680744?%5Fencoding=UTF8 (external link)

I have the version for iMovie 4 and there's one for iMovie 5, in case you are using that version. iMovie is a very powerful program for what it costs! (Especially, if you got it free with your iMac.)

So would this be an easy product to build a front page of a webiste to scroll some pics and add some music instead of flash?
