A few recent shots, Galapagos (56k alert)

Haven't posted for a while but we recently returned from a trip to Ecuador which included 7 nights touring the Galapagos. Here are a few first shots. I have a focus problem with the 100-400 (doesn't seem to lock onto subjects and oscilates, in servo or one shot mode). so I had to take 2x as many shots and do alot of filtering on a night.

Superb series Neil, the pelican profile is awesome.

Wow, fantastic series of shots Neil. They aren't all that different from NA birds. Some color shifts on the little heron and pelican, but still recognizable.

I had some focus problems with the Bigma that sounded like what happened to you. Using AI Focus fixed my problem. Might give it a try til you can get the lens in to Canon.

The trip (cruise) around Galapagos we booked with a company in Quito, doing it this way save us about 30% of the booking in Europe price!! We took the Catamaran athala, 16 passengers max, as it is a brand new boat and fast (so covers more islands in the 8 days). The way to do it is to decide which islands you want to visit than find a boat that goes there.
Ours was not a photographic tour and the guides can push you along the trails a bit fast, depending on the timings of other groups. I managed to lag behind most of the time in order to pateiently get closer to my chosen subjects....tourists running around with compacts in hand tend to scare things off, even in the Galapagos.

Oh man, the pelican profile is so cool! Awesome colors and very sharp.
