i have 40D, and im looking for good lenses..
i need lenses for sports(motosport mostly) and portraits..
what do you suggest? i cant decide what to buy..
85mm f1.8 and 70-200mm f4L non-IS + 2xII TC
or
85mm f1.8 and Sigma 70-200 f2.8 ?
OR what would be your choice if you had ~2000$ and you need to choose lenses for sports and portraits?

Do you absolutely have to have a prime? The 70-200 f/2.8L IS could meet both needs quite easily (at the 70mm ends it's a longish portrait lens), but if you needed a prime a 50 f/1.4 would fit the bill nicely for portraits on the 1.6 crop 40D. I'd go with a 1.4 TC rather than the 2X, though, for best image quality.

What 80mm lens are you looking at? Canon currently offers two 85mm lenses (f/1.8 and f/1.2) but no 80mm.

uh, i meant 85mm f1.8..
but any other suggestions?
i cant walk around always 70-200 f/2.8L IS in my hand, cuz it seems to be big(dont have any local shops to try it in hand and test), i would like to have 2 lenses, one smaller than other.. or maybe one for both needs and not big..

I obviously have the Sigma 17-70 (tack sharp) and am gong to buy the 70-200 f2.8 IS USM after the first of the year. I also have the 85mm f1.8 which is a sweet lens for indoor sports.

Simple Canon G9.
