Just a few from the morning. For some reason my 1.4x was not cooperating well with the 600mm today. A lot of the photos looked very soft.

the lighting and color of the water in the second shot, with the surfer's face in the sun, is just beautiful.

If you could brighten up the surfer in the 3rd shot then I think that is the best shot. the wave just looks awesome

RAW. Thanks guys. I think I like #2 the best too. I just wish I got out there about 2 hours earlier, when the sun was shining right into the barrels.

A little selective levels inside the barrel in the last might be nice. Is Ratboy the name of the place?

I might give that a try Dwight. I've got several photos from that day that are really dark inside the barrel. Showing up 2 hours earlier would have helped too because the sun would be shooting right into the thing.

Ratboy is actually Jason Collins' (the surfer) nickname. You aren't anybody in Santa Cruz until you have a nickname.

Well, this isn't great but it's the general idea. I made three successively smaller oval selections all within the barrel, feathered and applied levels at each. Five minutes. BTW, I have nicknames and I'm still nobody! :-)

Look at the angle of view,
he is shooting from most likley 2 or 3 times futher than straight on.
