I would recommend against it. You will end up with two mediocre lenses that you will probably just end up replacing at a later time.

Just my opinion,

Steve

What vendor are you looking at? Sometimes those combination kits are total scams.

I'm not sure where your at, but the price sounds very high. The 400 with kit lens runs about $600~$650 and the 75-300 another $150~$200.

You can see sample images of both lenses here:

I would order a la carte from B&H Photo and Video. :)

i agree.. i have that lens. and it is not too often that you get a real sharp image out of it. i have learned the hard way, and am saving up for good glass.

nothing wrong with the camera. but dont go with the glass.

yeah... say no to the kit lens and Ted's price... neither are too good... there are so may options for a combo of a 400D body and 2 lenses that will fit with in $1500 price range... just ask, Im sure we could go on for days with the various possibilities...

Can you be more specific about the store? There are ways we can look up various stores to see how they stack up for ratings.

A 400D, 18-55, and 75-300 should be no more than $900.

I bought the 30D enthusiast kit which includes 2 lens,the 18-75 & the 70-300.

The smaller lens is ok but continually having focus problems with the 70-300.Even sent it to Canon & their answer was the lens was within their specs.I am going to sell both & get the 24-70-L & the 70-200LIS.
